How to incorporate CSS into your web design

Starting out in your web design? Wishing to use CSS? You can.

But first - before you begin anything - there is one thing you must do: dont start with CSS. Confused? Well explain.

Although it may be tempting to jump straight into your website by creating the design, unless you know what is going to go on your website, this is a mistake. In fact it will be nearly impossible for you to do, so put CSS to the

side for the moment and consider another route: Content.

Yes content. Layout and everything else can come later. Whats important is working through the content of your webpage as it is here where your initial impressions for your web design will begin to appear.

So forget layout and how many divisions you plan to place onto your website; ignore graphic design, and consider for a moment what the purpose of your website is? What is your ultimate goal by creating this site? Once you

know and are confident on how you want to tackle it, go to your computer and write the content straight onto the page.

As you do this, view the page as though you are writing a HTML for IE 1.0. This includes putting your navigation into a list, your headlines with H1, H2 and H3 tags, and your content inside paragraphs.

Sounds simple? It is. And if you plan to have subsections on your website, this is easily resolved by separating them with DIV tags. All that matters at this stage is that you place the basic content onto your webpage. The rest

will come.

Yes we know what you are thinking your page looks boring plain dull. Your doubting what you have done.

Let me reassure you that this is just the first stage of the process. There is much more to do before it is finished, and we promise once you have created a new CSS web page, you will actually have achieved it in half the

usual time frame.

You see the reason we do this way, is that some designers make the mistake of trying to build up the layout of their web design without content. This is possible, but without content, elements such as width and height may

look misleading and are guaranteed to alter once the content is introduced. Until it is there, you can never be sure of the accuracy of your layout.

Even if it is rough, content will give your page perspective a structure something for you to work on later.

Master Style Sheet

What is the Master Style Sheet? This should be the first style sheet you call all your documents onto. Through this style sheet you should be able to clear out the default browser settings that can cause later problems in

cross-browser design and begin afresh..

Once you have cleared out the styles with your master style sheet, your design can start from the same place in all your browsers, giving you a clear canvas to play and paint on.

Now once your content and basic HTML have been set up, work your way down from the start of the page and place in your CSS styles. We know it may feel tempting to work more globally before focusing on the little details,

but that can complicate the CSS process.

Mindfulness: The Power to Change

One of the first steps in positive change is self-awareness, or mindfulness. First of all, we need to be aware of what we really want and what gets in the way of achieving it. Very often the barriers to change are internal, or

emotional. The more aware we become of our internal, or emotional state, the better prepared we are to make positive choices for change. For instance, if we want to change a communication pattern with another person,

such as expressing anger or impatience, we need to be aware of when this pattern happens. What is a typical situation? What are you thinking? What are you feeling? What sensations arise in your body? Beginning to notice

these things, without judgment, is the first step of change. Reflecting on past situations will help develop awareness for different behavior in the future. Then, developing moment-by-moment self-awareness when with that

person would be essential. You can practice this moment-by-moment self-awareness by doing the following exercise often throughout the day: Mini-Mindfulness Meditation Take a few deep breaths and become aware of your

body. Feel the sensations of the chair pressing against your body, your feet on the floor. Notice your shoulders, chest, stomach - just observing how you are in this moment - any sensations of tightness or tension. You can do

this with your eyes open or shut. If you practice this little exercise often during the day when you are relaxed, it will become second nature to you to check in with yourself often. Then, you will be more likely to do it in more

difficult situations, such as when you are triggered to react. If you notice your body tensing, your heart beating fast, your mouth getting ready to speak, you can just take a few breaths and take time to respond in a different

way. This gives you the freedom and power of choice, rather than acting out of an old habit.

****************************************************************************************

Practicing this simple mindfulness exercise

Most damaging Mindfulness helps us to make behavioral changes. Goal is to focus on present moment. Unfortunately, we tend to live in the past or future. Mindlessness. Often our state, like a trance. Speak thoughtlessly.

Grab cookie without realizing it. Being aware is first step in changing behavior. 3 things to learn to be aware of: Be aware of what we want to change in behavior. Be aware of what gets in the way. Be aware of feelings,

thoughts, self-talk, sensations in body, patterns of emotions. Take a moment to decide whether to act on thoughts, feelings. This helps reduce reactivity.

How do you learn to do this? It is important to check in with yourself often throughout the day to learn to observe yourself better. Do this when you are not triggered. Then you are more likely to remember to check in with

yourself when someone does trigger you. Then you can choose to stay mindful rather than be reactive.

Exercise of practicing mindfulness: Sit in chair for few minutes. Close eyes. Notice your body sensations on the chair, both feet on the floor. Become aware of breath. In and out. Notice sensation of breath. Breath in and out to

count of 4 each way. Breath in and out for a few minutes. Anytime your mind wanders off, bring it back to your breath. You don't have to totally clear your mind. Just allow the thoughts to come and let them go. As though your

mind is a stream, and your thoughts are leaves on the water. Just let them go by. Notice where your mind wants to go. Do not judge yourself, just observe. Open your eyes.

Maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance

When Sarbanes-Oxley was introduced back in 2002 everyone scrambled to get their business and IT infrastructure compliant. Today, the trouble isn't with getting your policy model compliant, it is with maintaining that

compliance that you initially set up.

IT is a field that is constantly changing and thus your IT policy and structure in your business will change and expand constantly. Putting the documentation and set of controls to ensure improvement is the first step to

ensuring that your compliance efforts are not too rigid. In order for businesses to stay competitive, they must have the ability to be flexible. If your set of controls is too rigid, then you will hinder your company's flexibility.

Having a set of documents that states processes and controls will make it easier to maintain and follow order when introducing new policies and models for your IT infrastructure.

One way to ensure compliance is to monitor legislation and stay on top of new regulations that are set in place so that you can make adjustments to your internal policy. Document these new regulations and then make

adjustments accordingly. Organized documentation is one of the more difficult but crucial keys to maintaining compliance.

Change control policies must also be set into place and documented. Having a change control structure in place will ensure a sort of checks and balances in your business and IT department. Having change control policies

documented will also ensure that you will have the right documents to show in the event you are audited.

Risk management is something that many IT managers deal with on a day to day basis. Taking into account risk levels with new regulations and new technology will help you decide the best course of action. As always, the

documentation of this will help you get a better grasp of the scope of the project or policy.

Sometimes maintaining compliance is more about policy management and documentation that it is about actual network security. But both of them go hand in hand. The technical geek inside of us all wants to just focus strictly

on the actual security technology that underlies every compliance regulation. But the truth is that documentation and change control processes is what drives it all. Without the policies in place to maintain compliance, security

goes out the door.

PayPal rule in Australia draws fire- EBay

EBay Inc. is exploring whether to require customers to use its online payment service PayPal, a move that has angered users and prompted antitrust scrutiny in Australia, where a PayPal-only rule takes effect next month.

It's unclear whether eBay will institute a similar policy in the United States and other countries. However, the online auction company often tries big changes in smaller markets before expanding them worldwide, and says it is

open to that in this case.

"We are going to take learnings from it and apply them accordingly," said eBay spokesman Usher Lieberman. EBay says it wants to reduce disputes and restore trust in its marketplace with the PayPal-only plan. Because

eBay and PayPal can share information on each transaction, eBay says use of PayPal allows it to stop fraud more efficiently than outside payment services. Pressing that safety argument in a heated discussion with

Australian users, an eBay executive compared the new rule to banning the sale of heroin on street corners. But critics lament that PayPal is costlier than other payment options, and they suspect eBay is just interested in

increasing PayPal's revenue. Australian banks say the plan will eliminate competition for the sake of exaggerated benefits."

Competition will be restricted, innovation and development will be constrained, new entry will be discouraged and PayPal will be able to increase fees and charges to eBay users," the Australian Bankers Association said in a

filing with regulators Thursday. Because eBay sellers are commonly independent merchants who don't accept credit cards, PayPal acts as a go-between. Buyers use their credit cards and bank account information to make

payments, and PayPal relays the funds to sellers' PayPal accounts, charging them 30 cents plus a commission - up to 4.4 percent in Australia. The second-most common method of payment on eBay Australia, bank transfers,

cost 20 cents each. Australia's bankers group says PayPal is not as immune to fraud as eBay claims. While PayPal does keep bank and credit card account information secret between trading partners, the bankers group

decried that it does not verify identity as banks do. EBay's financial reports indicate that PayPal, while hardly fraud-proof, is getting better at cracking down. Its loss rate is 0.24 percent, down from 0.33 percent a year ago.

That means that for every $100 transacted with the service, PayPal has to eat 24 cents because of fraud. That is slightly lower than the rates seen in credit and debit card transactions involving the top 20 online retailers, said

Avivah Litan, a payments security analyst with Gartner Inc.

EBay contends that when users opt for methods like bank transfers, their transactions are four times more likely to result in a disputed payment. EBay says reducing that risk will attract new buyers to the site. And, the

company adds, it doesn't stand to profit directly from the PayPal rule. It claims its investments in new buyer protections could outweigh any gains from increased PayPal fees. For instance, under Australia's new plan, if a buyer

doesn't get what he or she paid for via PayPal, eBay will refund the buyer up to 20,000 Australian dollars ($18,600).To make the PayPal rule possible, eBay has applied for - and automatically gets - immunity from Australia's

anti-monopoly Trade Practices Act. But the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, which is investigating, could revoke that immunity if it finds the plan will harm the marketplace. A decision is expected soon.

Things to consider while selecting appropriate Auto Transport:

If you are going to take the services of any auto transport company, then it is very important to consider several things in advance. It is so because just like any other business, here also there are several things which one needs to consider.

The first and the foremost thing that you need to know is why you need auto transport? Actually there are several occasions when you need to shift to another place for job or betterment or for any other reason. If you are going to a smaller distance, then it is not at all a problem to move your vehicle with you as you can drive it with you. However in case you need to shift overseas, then it is not at all possible to drive your vehicle with you. For such purpose auto transport is there that would help you in moving your vehicle from one place to another.

Thus auto transport companies are the companies that ensure transportation of your vehicle from one place to another. There are several types of auto transport available for example enclosed trailers as well as the open trailers. The basic different between both these type of auto transport is that enclosed trailers are in form of movable garages that helps in protecting the vehicle from the outside things whereas open trailers are not in the shape of garage rather they are open and are exposed to the overall surroundings. Thus first and the foremost thing you need to consider while opting for any of the auto transport company is to determine which type of auto transport you want to opt for transporting your vehicle.

This factor is important to consider because the choice of the type of auto transport would determine the cost that the company is going to charge from you. Thus it is important to consider this factor before proceeding further.

The next factor that you need to know about the auto transport company is about its goodwill in the market. This factor is very important because it is the question of safety of your most moving vehicle and so you cant afford to ignore this factor. There are several companies that can provide you assurance and good price in the beginning but thereafter you would get the results that would be shocking. Thus it is very important to consider this factor as well while opting for any of the auto transport company.

With above factors, it is also important to consider the terms and conditions of the auto transport company. Also it is very important to look for the policy that the company is having. It is so because there are several auto transport companies that provide door to door services rather there are some others that do not offer such services. Thus if you want to save your precious time afterwards by getting your vehicle at your doorstep, then it is best to look for the company that is having that option for you.

Thus by keeping the above factors in mind you would be able to get the appropriate auto transport company for you!

Auctions - Car Auction Tips

How many times have you went to a car auction and seen a car that you loved and you never took the chance of buying it because of the risk of buying a car full of problems. Worse still maybe you have never been to a car

auction because of the scare stories you hear about people getting ripped off and being left with a scrapper. The truth is that a car auction is a potential gold mine as opposed to a mine field if you are equipped with the right

experience and knowledge. As with any auction and when buying any product at the right price there is an element of risk because the cars being sold are second hand and you will get people that might bend the truth a little

but these risk elements can be greatly reduced to make your experience positive and profitable.

The first thing that you need to bear in mind is to check the car you'd like to place your bid on, and I mean check it. Inside and out give it a good going over. Bring a mechanic if you know one and try to spot potential trouble

before it happens. Check the places you wouldn't normally think of like the headliner and look for discolorment, which might indicate the previous owner was a smoker and the car might have an odour which is being masked

until you drive it for a few days and then it is back for good. Any chance you get to previews the vehicles, then take it and make good use of it so you know what is a bargain and what is over priced.

You don't want to doubt the information given, but you want to be sure everything is intact so bring a handheld device like a laptop or blackberry device.Equip yourself with the necessary technology and online service that will

allow you to check car's history. The internet will provide you with countless sites etc where you can check a cars service history and all the details you need to make your own decision on a car without taking someone elses

word for it.

If possible try to deal with the organ grinder as opposed to the monkey. What I mean is, if possible, try and ask questions to the owner or someone directly related to the car. By doing this you will be able to pick up things

where the owner might not be given all the details. When dealing with agents you need to remember that these guys are professionals and can easily persuade you into buying a car without you even realizing it. The can

easily gloss over the truth to get the sale and the commission so ask the right questions to the right people. All this detail might seem too much but it could be the difference between a quality deal to last you years and one

where you've over paid for a scrapper.

The conclusion to this article is that if you are equipped not to have the wool pulled over your eyes, and know what to look for before you arrive then car auctions can be very exciting and profitable places to be, and when the

work has been put in there is the thrill of the hammer coming down and you knowing you have got the car you want at the price you want.
